Write a book
For a while I have neglected my "Write a book" page. Perhaps it is because I was too busy writing my book! I am done with the book, or at least with the preliminary draft, and right now, as we speak, an editor is taking a cool look at it. Oooh, I'm so nervous! I hope he will not tell me to rewrite the whole thing! Anyway, I do not intend to write much. But I just have a few words of encouragement for you if you intend to write a book. Do you have intentions of writing a book? Are you, perhaps, writing one? If that is the case, then you know how not so very easy it is. Yes, a lot of hard work is involved. But I just want to share with you one little secret: One step at a time. Really, that is all there is to it. One word at a time, one sentence at a time, one page at a time, one chapter at a time, and yes, one book at a time. Why many fail at this endeavour is that they want to do everything at once. Some go to such an extent that they write several books at once. Well, all this is workable, but there is the danger of burning yourself. It is not just a good idea to start a project, then stop partway, and start another; and while you are at this other project, you get a 'better idea' and quit. Well, let us just say that is not very good manners. I do confess, I tend to have this habit sometimes; but I am trying my best to take one book at a time. The results are rather outstanding. So the bottom line? Stick to one book. Write a bit of that book whenever you can and as often as you can. You will see how quickly you will progress towards your goal. For example, if you just write one page a day (a very doable thing), then in a month you will have thirty pages, and in a year, you would have written over 300 pages (in fact close to 400). Yes, it can be done. It just takes a little time. But if you are in a hurry, and you want to get 'there' really fast, you can seat at your computer all day, writing up to 20 pages a day, and you will be done in two to three weeks, or even less. But the heck, rushing has never been a good idea. Take your time. One step at a time. You will get there. Just exercise a little patience, and endurance too. Remember, the greatest projects take time. There will be discouragements along the way; but how well you contend with these will mean the difference between success and failure. So hold up and don't stop walking. One step and a time; and another step, until the journey is done. I just finished writing a cool article about developing a good novel setting. Check it out:
