The Wonderful World of Poetry

This cosy little place, this one right here, is for those who love poetry.

This is one of the most fascinating aspects of creative writing. It allows you to use your imagination to the limit, creating the most unforgettable pictures using only words.

Poetry has the power to touch emotions, creating a complex array of feelings in the reader, ranging from soothing serenity to sheer agitation. It speaks to the heart…

Probably you are thinking, ‘I can’t write poems, leave that to Shakespeare and the rest of ‘em poetic guys.’

How wrong you are. Anyone can write a poem if they really want to… I am going to prove that to you. For instance, I never really fancied myself a poet before. As far as I was concerned, I was a prose guy and could never measure up to the standards of guys like T.S. Elliot. But when I picked up my pen and began to compose a few rhyming verses, I saw the light…

If you think that each time you compose a poem, you have to sound like Shakespeare, you probably will never succeed. The awful truth is that you are not him! Aiming too high may make you quit in frustration.

So, be yourself, and have fun. One of the things that keeps me at composing poems is that it is fun!

If each time you pick up that pencil to compose a poem, you sweat torrents upon torrents of water, take heart! It need not be a tragedy! You can do it, and you will!

Relax. Breath. Close your eyes and imagine…

Soar. Go places. visualise…

Run. Feel the wind in your hair…

Inhale. Smell the freshness of spring…

Listen. Hear the singing of birds…

Dive. Plunge to the depths below…

Go everywhere, see everything…

Let the words take you there…

You want to compose poems,eh? You have come to the right place. You’ll soon be scribbling away like the poet you really are. So let’s get busy!
