Writing - A Truly Powerful Tool!

Writing is a very powerful tool.

Do you agree with the above statement?

“Nay,” you say, “there is a more powerful tool than that!”

How about you list a couple, eh?

Anyway, consider the following:

A young man writes a letter to a young lady miles away. Upon reading it, the young lady’s heart swells with happiness. She smiles broadly, her eyes glistening with excitement. Her heart bangs against her rib cage as the image of the young man appears in her mind. She gasps out and says: “Yes, I accept!”

A restless boy paces up and down the room, anxiously waiting for the phone in his hand to beep. Finally, it does. He hurriedly presses a few buttons to read the text message he has just received. He chuckles from relief and slumps into the seat with a smile. A sudden serenity comes over him.

Mr. Jones has been jobless for quite a while, after being fired from his first job because, as his employer put it, he had too many employees. Unable to handle the constant nagging from his wife to find another job, he responds to an ad in a paper by writing an application letter. A week later, he is called for an interview. Barely a week later, he gets the job and his family is saved from destitution.

A girl and her mother huddle around a letter that they have just received from the girl’s father, who is incarcerated in a prison far away for fearlessly proclaiming his religious beliefs. Even though he is miles away, it is almost as if he is right there with them. The daughter can’t help but exclaim: “He still cares! He has not forgotten about us!”

A distraught government worker writes an article in the newspaper revealing acts of corruption done by certain people in government. The accused government officials are incarcerated, tried and found guilty. They are sentenced to long years in prison, and their successors are a bit more scrupulous…

A woman has just given birth to twins—Siamese twins—whose heads are joined together. A crucial and expensive operation has to be performed to separate them and save both their lives. However, the couple, who are of lowly means, cannot afford such an operation. A journalist covers their plight in a newspaper article. A wealthy man reads their story. He offers to pay for the operation. The operation is a success and both the twins are saved.

See that writing is a very powerful tool? Still not convinced? Take this into consideration:

The Almighty God decides to have the ten words (ten commandments) written on stone tablets, even after he has earlier spoken them.

Later on, he has Moses put down all his commandments into writing, compiling them into a book of the law that must be read daily, according to Joshua; quote:

“ This book of the law should not depart from your mouth, and you must in an undertone read in it day and night, in order that you may take care to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way successful and then you will act wisely.”

Down through the centuries, God has his servants write down several letters and books which are compiled into what we now know as the bible. And still the emphasis is on reading it; to quote:

“…But his delight is in the law of Jehovah,And in his law he reads in an undertone day and night”

Do you not suppose that God understood, perhaps more than we do, how powerful the written word is? Do you see that he knew that writing is a very powerful tool? It is no wonder that he made good use of it!

Writing has the power not only to dispense important thoughts and sentiments but also to preserve important information that would otherwise be lost. Think of the dozens of journals, history books, religious and epistolary literature that has been preserved. All these have preserved the thoughts and experiences of dozens of people who have walked on the surface of this earth and offer a window into the past…

Writing is really wonderful! It is indeed a powerful tool. I can’t agree any further. That being the case, why should you, my friend, think of it is a tragedy? Let’s lay off the indolence and pick up our pens and…

Write till we drop!
