The Intriguing Genre of Romance

Romance is a genre of writing that focuses on stories about love. It, however, can also refer to medieval adventure stories or stories about exciting adventures. I do not consider all these categories. Rather I choose to focus on the primary category that it refers to, namely, love stories, both medieval and modern.

One of the most famous love stories ever is Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. As is exemplified by this story, this genre of literature focuses on the love existent between a man and woman how such is expressed and the challenges the lovers udergo as they pursue this love.

Of course, to say that love stories are about the existence of and expression of love merely between a man and a woman is quite a narrow definition in today's dynamic world. Modern Romance would, not surprisingly, touch on love between people of the same sex; and love between a human and a semi-human creature, such as a vampire or werewolf. The later is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the realm of movies.

Romance, based on the theme of love, is often quite idealistic. What I mean is that it paints a picture about love that is less than true and practical. Characters are often painted as beautiful and handsome without any physical blemishes. This seems to suggest that true love can exist only between physically attractive people. If you are a fan of love stories, then you obviously know that 'tall dark and handsome young man', and the 'beautiful youn woman with a fine body'.

In addition, love stories often seem to give the impression that love has a force that can overcome any challege flung its way. This

There are, of course, intermediate forms between Romance and other major genres. For example, there are tragic romances. These are a combination of romance and tragedy, where the main characters fall in love, but face a very sad outcome, say, one of them dies, or they are separated. Romeo and Juliet mentioned above might perhaps be a good example of this as the major characters die at the end of the tale.

But generally speaking, romance refers to love stories, be them screenplays, plays, short stories or novels.

Therefore, I endeavour to show you the various techniques that are used to create great love stories. I will, additionally, teach you new techniques to create the most moving love stories.

Apart from expressing the idealized and sentimental views prevalent in most love stories, I will show you that sometimes, you got to stray from the conventionally accepted ideas of what constitutes a good love story and implement your own.
