Write with feeling

Writing with feeling not only gives life to your writing, but also works against writer’s block….Suffice it to say, when you run out of feeling, you run out of words….So as a writer, you must learn to write with feeling.

Having said that, I have a question for you:

What inspires a story or poem?

Different writers will answer that question differently.

Some will say it is some freak event, or perhaps a certain individual.

What inspires a story or poem?

Ask me.

A feeling.

Shakespeare often wrote about love—the love that exists between a man and a woman. His own life was an intriguing love affair—being married at a tender age of eighteen to a woman six years older than him! His poems are full of feeling and life. It is most probable that his love life inspired most of his writings. I assert that it was not just his love life that influenced his writing, but also the feelings associated with this love life led him to compose poems of especial quality. Shakespeare not only wrote with his mind, but also with his heart—his feelings. It is easy to tell that he was attached to his writing. As you read what he wrote, you can almost feel what he felt.

All stories and poems and a great number of other works, are inspired by feelings. The greatest writers are the ones who are good at incorporating their feelings into their writing. They write with their heart, and their feelings permeate their pieces of work.

Why is it important to write with feeling?

To put it simply, a piece of writing written with feeling tends to grip the reader. You will also note that your readers tend to be addicted to your writing. They will look forward to anything new that you write. Why?

Because you excite them, inspire them, understand them….

They feel something when they read your works and you bet they will want to feel it again.

Believe me, if your writing does not move your readers in any way, they’ll feel little inclined to read it again.

What does it take to move your readers?

It starts with you, the writer.

Do you write with feeling?

Are you moved by your own writing?

If you are, then it is most likely that your readers will be moved too.

Feeling is contagious, isn’t it?

How do you feel upon entering a room that is full of gloomy people? I reckon happy is the furthest answer in your mind.

But what happens if the gloomy people burst into heart laughter?

Even if you do not know the joke, you will find yourself laughing. That is the power of feeling.

Embed feeling into whatever you write by first of all feeling….

It’s not just a matter of liking what you are writing, but it is a matter of loving it.

Once you feel for your writing, it will automatically reflect.

If you are happy, your writing will be happy.

If you are sad, your writing will be sad.

If you are pessimistic, your writing will be pessimistic.

If you are optimistic….jeez! Do I need to say it?

Your writing will be optimistic….

So let us say that you are happy. How are you going to create that happy scene?

Okay, I may have exaggerated things a tiny bit. Just because you are happy doesn’t mean you can write with your eyes closed. You still have to rake your brains a bit to find the right words. Instead of simply saying:"Bill was happy,”
You should use more graphical expressions. Let your reader visualize what the character is feeling. They should see it in the speech, the actions, and the facial expressions.

You can write, for instance:

A large smile stretched across Bill’s face and his eyes began to beam. With a deep hearty laugh, he grabbed the apple and halved it with one bite.

“Nothing is sweeter than victory,” he sputtered, “nothing but apple.”

Ah, I’m sure you can see it now—Bill’s happy condition. I’m pretty certain you can feel it too.

It is said that writers are people with feeling. Well, let me put it this way:

Great writers are those who are emotionally attached to their writing. They have passion for their work. They are excited by their works. They are moved to write by feelings large and small.

I can’t put it any simpler than that, and they are a great many examples I can put across to prove my point. But I think I’ll bore you to tears if I do that….

But allow me to say this:

You want your writing to live and breathe? You want your writing to excite, motivate and move people? You always want to be in the mood to write?
