The Best Way of
Writing Articles

When writing articles, whether for a magazine or for a website, there is just one golden rule that you should follow:

Your audience comes first.

Once you follow this rule, you are bound to write excellent articles. Yes, your success is guaranteed.

People read articles because they are looking for solutions to their problems. They want to know how, why, when, where, or what to do about something. Therefore, in your article, you must provide your reader with exactly what they are looking for.

How though can you provide your readers the help that they need?

Firstly, know your audience. Whom are you writing for?

Knowing your audience will help you tailor your article according to their needs. The best is to to put yourself in their shoes.

Ask  yourself:

How much does my audience know?

What do they really want?

Once you have established who your audience is and what they want, you are ready to move on to the second step in writing topics—self evaluation.

How much do I really know about this topic? Am I able to provide them with what they need? Do I need to do some research?

Asking yourself questions such as these will help you get started. If you are knowledgeable about the topic, go ahead and write. If you need to do some research, do so.

The next thing you have to do is to plan your work. You can do it mentally. Some people are good at making mental outlines, and then straight away get into writing. Others however, prefer making a draft on paper where they list their most important points. As they write, these points act as their guide. Whether you do it mentally or not, the most important thing is that you should plan your work.

The easiest way of writing articles is to clearly identify the problem, and then present the solution. Remember your audience? They are looking for solutions. Therefore, early on in the article, you should prove to them that you understand their problem, and then quickly identify solutions to that problem.

Therefore, you must work to catch the attention of your target audience early on. Often this involves choosing a good title. Here is an example of a good title:

Five secrets to writing excellent articles

Your title should be a promise of what your audience will achieve after reading your article.

Next, work on a good introduction. Keep it short, and snappy. For example, you could say:

“Do you want to know how to write excellent articles? Do you want to know how you can win the hearts of your readers? Here are five secrets to writing juicy articles.”

The point is not to make it too long. Tell your readers what you have to offer them in the first few lines. Then straight away get down to writing.

After you are done with the introduction, it is time to work on the body of your article. the most important thing you have to keep in mind is to Keep It Simple.

Use a simple style.

Use a lot of active voice.

Keep your sentences short.

Use short paragraphs.

Make sure each paragraph focuses on a single topic.

Don’t talk like a book.

Most people don’t immediately start reading articles. They often scheme through the article first. If they discover that the article is too long, they will feel daunted. So your article should not be too long. If you have to write a long article, it is best to break it up into several parts by using subheadings.

Remember, you should write confidently, but this does not mean sounding like a snob. You should make the reader feel free, as they would when conversing with a knowledgeable expert. At the same time, you should show her that you are someone who knows what you are talking about.

Finally, your conclusion should be an emphasis on an import point, or a summary of what you have talked about. For example, you could say:

If you follow these five simple rules, you are bound to write excellent articles that will leave your readers feeling happy and satisfied. More than that, they will look forward to hearing from you again.”

It is also customary when writing articles to place at the end of your article links or resources that your reader can consult to get further help.

Once you bear these guidelines in mind, writing articles will become as easy as a breeze, and you are bound to please your readers and send them hungering and thirsting for more.
